Of course the PCT would save its best for my last day on the trail.
After weeks of hot smoky weather, today was cool and clear. The trail was gentle. There were blueberries, beautiful lakes and great views. The country ahead looks beautiful and promising.
I want to keep hiking. But I really can’t. My left knee is worse today than it was yesterday, not only painful but unstable. I fell down once on my way to dig a cat hole this morning. Nothing good will come of pushing further on.
So it is time to say goodbye to the lakes, goodbye to the forests, goodbye to the berries, goodbye to the trail itself.
Goodbye.
