Woke this morning to the roar of traffic. Apparently the road is a shortcut between Lancaster and the San Fernando Valley. And it was now my route, as the PCT proper is closed for the next 25 miles due to a fire last year. The alternate is a 19 mile roadwalk.
It was boring, tiring and really made my feet hurt. I got out my earphones and listened to Patrick O’Brian’s “The Far Side of the World” to while away the hours.
I was offered rides several times by kind souls, but resisted the temptation until I was about a mile from Hikertown.
Hikertown is very odd – apparently run by former movie people, it consists of buildings from old cowboy movie sets. But it has showers, and I am grateful to be inside out of the cold wind that is howling tonight.
