PCT mile 478 – camping by the road

After a slow start leaving Agua Dulce (due to the Challah french toast at Mon Ami’s), I climbed up through oak woodlands, finally breaking out on a ridge with a fantastic view of the snow-covered Tehachapis.

The dense chaparral offered few campsites – I hit one at 4PM after 16 miles of hiking, but decided to push on – hiking is interesting, sitting around a closed-in desert campsite is boring.

Unfortunately there were no campsites until I hit San Francisquito Rd, another 8 miles further, and my feet were pretty sore by then.

Casa de Luna, another trail angel house, was 2 miles further down the road, but I wasn’t going to walk it. Tried hitching, but it was getting dark and I gave up after half an hour and rolled out my bag 10 yards back from the road under some pines, cooked my dinner (tortilla soup) in the dark and went to sleep.
