Three fairly steep miles down the Cataract Creek gulch brought us to Eagle Park. And to the vanguard of some 400 hikers participating in something called the Fjallraven Classic. We’d seen signs for it up on Elk Ridge. Apparently Fjallraven is guiding the hikers from Tennessee Pass to Copper Mountain and teaching them LNT principles and practices along the way. I guess if they can herd that many hikers on a 3 day trip and leave no trace then they must be masters of the art.
They were all headed for Janet’s Cabin. How they will find room for enough tents is a mystery. An even bigger mystery is where they will all poop in the morning.
We fished the Eagle River without success and then turned back on to the trail, stopping to contemplate the old army bunkers.
Temps got well into the 80s and the intense midday sun made for a hot hike.
Although my legs are not in trail shape, my mind has already entered trail time. I like being out here and always knowing just what to do and having the means to do it.
Passed on a bug infested forest camp near the N Fork of West Tennessee Creek and found a much nicer spot on a low bluff overlooking W Tennessee Creek proper. The slight prominence catches just enough breeze to keep the mosquitoes down. Caught a few small brookies, had a delicious dinner of sweet potato/ carrot mashed potatoes with chicken and tomato, played some ukulele as the sun set behind Homestake Peak and then turned in as the wind died and the mosquitoes returned.
Simple.
Stumbled onto ya via a BPL email and was pleasantly surprised! Not only am I doin some trail miles, albeit vicariously, but am also learning more about viruses and other scientific stuff! Keep on hikin and blogging!
