Strolled the 11 miles or so from my camp to the trailhead on Halfmoon Creek and hitched a ride into Leadville for the 4th. I hadn’t been planning to stop but was lured in by a Facebook post from the Colorado Trail House advertising a barbecue and a live feed of the Grateful Dead’s show in Chicago. It sounded like an excellent way to celebrate the 4th, and so it was: burgers, hot dogs and PBRs enjoyed in the company of fellow hikers and locals. An unplanned interlude front hiking, but all the more enjoyable for that.
