I started my day with high hopes of sitting on a plastic throne, but it was not to be. The campground privy was locked due to being full to capacity. The sign said the Forest Service is working on a solution. Good to know.
The trail followed Courtright Res around its northeastern quadrant, fine views of the granite domes surrounding it nicely lit by the morning sun.
I took the TST alternate which detours to a series of high rocky lakes, a feature that is notably absent in its usual valley routings.
I stopped at each one–Cliff, Rock, Second and First Dinkey Lakes- to fish, lounge and generally absorb the high country vibe. Each lake had a few colorful 8-inch brookies ready to rise to a #12 Adams, making for some classic alpine fishing.
I’d intended to swim in the last lake (1st Dinkey) but its marshy nature and swarms of mosquitoes caused me to reconsider.
More forest hiking after that, but the cruise through Rock Meadow was one of the more scenic legs of the hike, high handsome ridges with just a few streaks of snow rising over the lush expanse of grass and flowers.
Camp is another forest camp but more open than most and a bit less buggy. Plenty good.
