Woke to cloudy skies and the wind delivered a series of cool Pacific squalls not long after I began hiking. The wind and rain animated the whole countryside, throwing the clouds and peaks into a confusion of storms and sun.
Although a bit damp, it made for delightful hiking through the Canelo Hills. The wind was mostly in my face and kept the tall grass and oak trees waving as I passed by.
Finding a campsite in these grasslands is hard. The bunches of tall grama grasses make a lumpy bed, and it would be impossible to cook without setting the grass ablaze. Finally found a gravelly gully behind a rock wall that blocks the wind. It is a good spot and I am looking forward to an excellent sleep
